Pipefest Global Challenge aims to unite the piping and drumming world in support of cancer and veteran charities worldwide. We are asking all pipers and drummers around the World to give up one day to help others.

General

Who can take part in Pipefest Global Challenge?
Pipefest is open to all pipe bands, individual players and drum majors around the World.

When will Pipefest Global Challenge take place?
Pipefest Global will take place at a number of key locations around the World and start with a huge massed pipe parade in Edinburgh on Saturday, 7th August 2010.

Are other stages being planned around the World?
Further events are currently being organised which will take place within 24 hours of the Edinburgh event.

How much does it cost to register to take part?
Registration is free if you register in 2009. There may be a small registration charge for players who register last minute in 2010.

How do you register to take part?
Players and supporters can register online at www.pipefest.com

What size is each block within the parade?
Each massed pipe band block will consist of approximately 40-60 players.

Can larger pipe bands march on there own?
Larger bands above 20 players can march on there own and play their own tune selections.

Fundraising

Do players need to help fundraise?
It is not conditional on taking part to fundraise, but we hope players will at least consider fundraising at this event. Each member of a band should consider if they want to raise money for charity on an individual basis.

How will fundraising be administered?
Fundraising will be administered using online fundraising sites such as ‘justgiving’. For more information to see how it works please visit: www.justgiving.com. Other fundraising sites will be used in other countries around the World. The organisers of Pipefest do not collect money but instead work with intermediaries such as justgiving who direct pay the charities involved. No money raised by players is used to pay for the cost of producing Pipefest 2010.

Will the money I help raise in my country benefit my country?
Money raised in your country will benefit charities in your country

Can players fundraise for other charities?
To help create maximum benfit to the official charities of this event it is hoped that players will raise money for those charities. However, if players wish to raise money for another health related charity this would be acceptable. We only ask that you let us know how much you have raised so that we can add it to the charity total of the event.

Edinburgh

Will water and snacks be available to players at the form-up point?
Free water and snacks will be available to all players while forming up for the parade.

Will toilets be available at the form-up point?
Portable toilets will be positioned at the form-up point.

Can non-players and supporters be involved in fundraising?
Supporters will be very welcome to take part in a range of fundraising events including 'The ‘World’s Longest Strip the Willow’ which we hope will feature 2010 people!
